Using social data gathered over several years, we developed an algorithm that presents the most interesting upcoming events first.
We account for dozens of factors that go well beyond how many people say they're going. Our goal is to highlight not just the most popular event, but the most interesting event.
To build this algorithm, we took a hard look at how users browse events and make plans. Before we looked deeply into this, we assumed—as did most people—that a person decides when they're free, then looks at events that fit in the time slot.
It's not like that at all.
Users want to see what events are coming up that sound the most interesting. If it's something they want to attend, they'll make time to attend.
Because of this, users would rather learn about interesting upcoming events first rather than browse a chronological list.
